MADISON, WI (WSAU) — Authorities in another Wisconsin community are warning the public against the thefts of car parts from right under the hood of their vehicles.

Authorities across the region have warned vehicle owners, particularly those who have a Toyota Prius, to be aware of where they park to keep from having the parts stolen. They recommend parking in well-lit areas, inside a locked garage, and installing anti-theft devices on your catalytic converter or welding it to the frame of your vehicle if you can.
Police in Stevens Point and Wausau have also reported an increase in thefts.
According to Madison Police say a single catalytic converter can be worth up to $1,800 because of the metals inside it.
