MILWAUKEE, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – Gov. Tony Evers plans to use $2.5 billion in federal coronavirus stimulus money to help small businesses and tourism, invest in infrastructure and continue pandemic response efforts.
Evers announced his plans Monday in Milwaukee.
Evers says $600 million would go toward small businesses, building on the We’re All In grant program. Another $50 million is earmarked for the tourism industry.
Evers plans to put $200 million toward infrastructure, with much of it going toward increasing access to high-speed internet in rural areas.
Another $500 million is set to go to continue efforts to respond to the pandemic.
Specific programs, Evers said, would be announced later as the state works to comply with federal rules for using the money.
Overall, Wisconsin is expected to receive a total of $5 billion in aid.
Meanwhile, Evers, a Democrat, vetoed a bill which would have given the Republican-controlled Legislature control over federal relief funds.
