MADISON, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — Wisconsin’s rolling seven-day average of new COVID-19 cases closed the work week under 400.
The state Department of Health Services reported 390 new confirmed infections, or 17% of the 2,288 people tested. The seven-day average fell to 386, the first time in a week it was less than 400.
With six more deaths, the seven-day average held at five.
Since the pandemic began, there have been 571,610 confirmed cases and 6,562 deaths. DHS listed 558,503 people as having recovered from COVID-19, the illness caused by the coronavirus.
Vaccinations in Wisconsin totaled 2,219,237 doses as of Friday. A total of 1,384,774 people (23.8% of the state’s population) had received at least one dose and 811,217 people (13.9%) had completed their vaccine course.
Among people 65 and older, 71.2% had received at least one dose and 46.2% had been fully vaccinated.
Overall hospitalizations in Wisconsin declined slightly on Friday. The Wisconsin Hospital Association reported treating 213 COVID-19 patients, nine fewer than on Thursday and 20 fewer than a week earlier. Of those, 64 were in intensive care, two more than on Thursday and nine more than a week earlier.
Northeast region hospitals reported 24 COVId-19 patients, up one in a day but down 12 over a week. Eight of those were in ICUs, two more than on Thursday and one more than a week earlier. In the Fox Valley region, there were 17 COVID-19 patients, down one in a day but up six over a week. One of those was in an ICU, the same number as a day and a week earlier.
