MADISON, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — The latest update from the Wisconsin Department of Health Services showed little change in coronavirus activity, while vaccinations continued to increase.
On Thursday, DHS reported 490 new cases, or 15.5% of the 3,170 total tests reported. Two new deaths were added to the state’s total.
The rolling seven-day average of new cases remained steady, moving from 411 as of Wednesday to 409 as of Thursday. The average of deaths moved from four to five per day.
Since the pandemic began, there have been 571,220 confirmed cases and 6,556 deaths. DHS lists 558,115 people as having recovered from COVID-19, the illness caused by the coronavirus.
Meanwhile, the state’s weekly dashboard showed a second Northeast Wisconsin county moving into the “low” category for virus activity, but three others moved into the “high” category.
Kewaunee County joined Menominee County as the only area counties with “low” activity. Green Lake County remained in the “medium” category, joined by Waushara and Waupaca counties. All other area counties were in the “high” category, including Florence, Calumet and Fond du Lac, which moved up from the “medium” category a week earlier.
As for vaccinations, Wisconsin had seen 2,148,882 total doses administered. Thursday’s update showed 1,340,704 people (23% of the population) having received at least one dose and 761,027 (13.4%) having completed their vaccination course.
Among those 65 and older, 70.4% had received at least one shot and 44.3% were fully vaccinated.
