A resident of Sheboygan County in their 40s is the latest to fall victim of the SARS-CoV-2 Virus locally, and becomes the 133rd victim of the pandemic. Of that total, one was between 10 and 19 years old, three were in their 30s, five were in their 40s, five in their 50s, twenty-one in their 60s, twenty-eight were in their 70s and seventy victims were age 80 or older.
The active case count reported by the Sheboygan County Division of Public Health rose for the second consecutive day this week; with 13 new positives and 8 recoveries, the active cases are at 162, four more than on Tuesday. The positive test rate today was 21.3%. Hospitalizations also rose for a second consecutive day, by two patients, now totaling 9 in the county.
With the weekly update of 14-day rates and trajectories from the Wisconsin Department of Health Services now filed, Sheboygan County edged up slightly in the Burden rate, now indicating 159.9 cases per 100,000 population, an increase of 2.1 points. Activity level remains high, with no significant change in trajectory. That compares with a state average of 101.2 Burden with a high level of activity and no significant change.
Wisconsin added 15 deaths today to a toll that’s now reached 6,554. The 319 new positives comprised about 11% of all returns, and the running case total for Wisconsin rose to 570,730. 53 more hospitalizations were logged since Tuesday, and after deaths and discharges were accounted for, the COVID-19 patient population dropped 9 to 205, 58 of those in ICU beds. 365 patients now require ventilators.
As for vaccinations, as of Wednesday morning 23,965 Sheboygan County residents – 20.8% – had received at least 1 dose of vaccine, and 10.6% of all residents are now fully vaccinated.
