MADISON, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — Wisconsin reported its fewest new coronavirus cases in six months on Monday, while posting a second consecutive day without a death from the virus.
The state Department of Health Services reported 308 new cases on Monday, or 9.8% of the 3,134 tests completed. The 308 cases were the fewest since last Aug. 31. The seven-day average of new cases fell to 610, the same level it was on Feb. 21.
For the second week in a row, the state reported zero new deaths on a Sunday and Monday. The seven-day average of new deaths held steady at 18.
Since the pandemic began, there have been 564,268 confirmed cases and 6,412 deaths. DHS lists 550,280 people as having recovered from COVID-19, the illness caused by the coronavirus.
Coming off a record week of vaccinations, Wisconsin as of Monday had a total of more than 1.4 million doses administered. Of those, 912,429 have been first doses, covering 15.7% of the state’s population and 54.4% of people 65 and older. In Wisconsin, 8.5% of all people and 22.6% of those 65 and older have completed their two-dose series of vaccinations.
Hospitalizations in Wisconsin changed little on Monday. The Wisconsin Hospital Association reported treating 287 COVID-19 patients, down three since Sunday and down 59 over a week. Of those, 73 were in intensive care, the same number as on Sunday and 22 fewer than a week earlier.
In the Northeast region, there were 32 COVID-19 patients, the same number as on Sunday and three fewer than a week earlier. Eleven of those were in ICUs, down one in a day but up three over a week. Fox Valley region hospitals reported 12 COVID-19 patients, down three over both a day and a week. Three of those were in ICUs, up one over both a day and a week.
