It apparently hasn’t yet happened here, but the Sheboygan County Sheriff’s Office took to social media this past week to inform people what to do if 911 service goes down due to hackers. According to the posting, other agencies across the US have had their lines tied up, hampering emergency services.
For Sheboygan County residents, the Sheriff says that if you can’t get through to 911, try texting the number, and if that doesn’t work, use the non-emergency line at 459-3111.
The message concluded with hope that this kind of attack won’t occur, but advises to keep the alternative information handy in case it does.
