Tyler Vorpagel, District 27 State Assembly Representative
An aging computer system at the State’s Department of Workforce Development was blamed by Governor Evers as the heart of delays in processing the flood of claims for unemployment insurance during the pandemic. Majority legislators, however, blamed the Governor for failing to act within his authority to upgrade that system. On Tuesday, the State Assembly passed a bill that now awaits Evers’ signature, putting the needed upgrade in motion.
Upon passage of the bill, 27th District Representative Tyler Vorpagel of Plymouth said that the Governor should have acted much earlier to use his authority to upgrade the system, but instead chose to play politics with people on unemployment. The new bill, he says, requires that a request for proposals be issued within 30 days, with upgrades to the outdated system to begin by the end of June.
