Restoration of Our Trees Sheboygan has been given the “Project Partnership” award by the Wisconsin Urban Forestry Council in recognition of its collaboration with other organizations to replace dying ash trees. Sheboygan County overall hosts some 17 million of the trees, which are susceptible to infestation by the Emerald Ash Borer which burrows beneath the bark, eventually killing the tree.
ROOTS began replacing thousands of those trees last October with varieties that aren’t vulnerable to the pest. The Project Partnership Award recognizes ROOT’s collaboration between Sheboygan Rotary Clubs and the Lakeshore Natural Resource Partnership in attracting grants from the federal government and a corporate gift from Alliant Energy.
According to the Wisconsin Urban Forestry Council, the project has demonstrated that collaboration brings enormous advantages for both the urban forest and its people.
