While recent cold might seem endless, the Wisconsin DNR has a thaw in mind, and they’re reminding ice fishing enthusiasts that all permanent shanties – those not removed daily – must be off the ice soon. Around here, the deadline is Sunday, March 7th. North of Highway 64, that deadline is March 14th.
You’ll still be able to ice fish after that, but only with portable shanties that are taken down each day.
The DNR is asking the public to report any violations of the rules to the DNR Violation Hotline by calling or texting 1-800-TIP-WNDR or 1-800-847-9367.
