The number of active cases of COVID-19 in Sheboygan County rose for the first time since January 8th, when 901 cases were recorded. That number had declined uninterrupted until today, when 41 new cases outnumbered the 31 recoveries, raising the active case total by 10 to 229. That’s a 20% positive rate out of the 200 tests received. Hospitalizations rose by 2 to 5. 12,621 confirmed cases of the coronavirus have so far been confirmed by the Sheboygan County Division of Public Health, and 125 have lost their lives to it. In terms of the 2-week rates and trajectories, Sheboygan County is experiencing a “high” level of activity – the middle point of such classifications – after peaking at the highest “critically high” category in November. Now, there are 169.4 cases per 100,000 persons, with no significant change in trajectories. And still with that in mind, the overall decline in activity over the last month has been unmistakable.
That’s also borne out in the weekly update of facility-wide investigations. Discovery of COVID-19 triggers contact tracing, self-isolation and possible quarantine, and the subsequent investigation is considered “open” until two maximum incubation periods have passed since the last possible exposure to a COVID-19 case in the facility without any new cases…in this case, 28 days. Whereas 44 such investigations were open a week ago, that number is down to 34 this week. 4 are at long-term care facilities. Three of those, Morningside, Pine Haven-Haven Drive Campus, and Rocky Knoll Health Care Center, were identified.
2 group housing facilities hosted investigations, 1 healthcare facility was active, 12 non-healthcare workplace investigations were open, and there were 15 education settings. The ones identified were:
- Early Learning Center
- Grant Elementary
- Howards Grove High
- Lake Country Academy
- Lincoln Erdman Elementary
- Northview Elementary
- Oostburg Elementary
- Plymouth High
- Sheboygan Falls Elementary
- Sheboygan Falls Middle
- Sheboygan Falls High
- Sheboygan North High
- Sheboygan South High
- Urban Middle School
The Wisconsin Department of Health Services confirmed 1,239 new cases of COVID-19 in the last 24-hours, 17.3% of all tests received. Eleven deaths raised the toll to 6,140, and 52 more persons were hospitalized. After accounting for deaths and discharges, there was no net change in patient population. 489 COVID victims are being treated, 129 of those in ICU beds.
