The death of another Sheboygan County resident age 80 or older drove home the fact that even as numbers suggest an easing of the coronavirus pandemic, COVID-19 continues to be a deadly threat. Friday’s report from the County Division of Health Services put the county death toll at 123. Of those, one was between 10 and 19 years old, two were in their 30s, four were in their 40s, five in their 50s, twenty-two were in their 60s, twenty-seven were in their 70s, and 62 were 80 or above.
An average of 14.86 new cases were seen in each of the past seven days in Sheboygan County, comprising a rate of 12.9 per 100,000 population. Among bordering counties, Manitowoc and Calumet have higher rates, while Fond du Lac, Washington and Ozaukee counties are comparable to Sheboygan. Sheboygan County is currently classified with a “High” activity level of 225.3 active cases per 100,000 persons.
22 positives were reported among the 100 tests returned in the last 24 hours (22% positive), raising the running case total here to 12,528. But with 50 recoveries since yesterday, the active case count fell to 324, the fewest since 311 were reported on October 8th. An additional patient raised the county’s hospital population to 7.
Wisconsin added 1,266 new cases to the state total which has now reached 548,221, with a 22.1% positive return rate. 28 more deaths raised the toll to 6,020. 100 more persons required hospitalization for COVID-19 since yesterday, and after accounting for deaths and discharges, the state’s COVID patient population fell by 11 to 583, 159 of those in ICU beds.
