MADISON, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — Rolling seven-day averages of coronavirus cases and deaths held steady in Wisconsin on Monday.
The state Department of Health Services reported 1,456 new confirmed cases, or 26.7% of the 5,454 total tests done. Five more people died.
Seven-day averages moved to 2,915 total cases, 40 deaths and 29.7% test positivity.
Since the pandemic began, there have been 508,346 confirmed cases, more than 2.4 million negative tests and 5,162 deaths. DHS lists 474,830 people as having recovered from COVID-19, the illness caused by the new coronavirus.
As of Monday morning, there were no inpatients at the alternate care facility near Milwaukee. Three people were receiving outpatient treatment.
Overall hospitalizations increased slightly on Monday. The Wisconsin Hospital Association reported treating 1,017 COVID-19 patients, up 18 from Sunday, but down 105 from a week earlier. Of those, 222 were in intensive care, two more than on Sunday but 10 fewer than a week earlier.
Northeast region hospitals reported treating 99 COVID-19 patients, seven more than on Sunday but eight fewer than a week earlier. Of those, 28 were in ICUs, up six in a day and flat over a week. In the Fox Valley region, there were 76 COVID-19 patients, a one-day increase of 10 and a one-week jump of 16. Seven of those were in ICUs, the same number as on Sunday but three more than a week earlier.
Monday’s update came as the state planned to move into its next phase of vaccinations by administering shots to police officers and firefighters beginning Jan. 18.
