Charles “Spike” Thomas Williams, age 94, said goodbye to his family on January 4, 2021 at Sharon S. Richardson Community Hospice.
Charles was born in Sheboygan County, Wisconsin on August 21, 1926 to the late Benjamin and Margaret (Haas) Williams. He helped support his family since his father died at a young age and his brothers were serving in the military. He also served in the Army during the Korean War as a Radio Operator, Corporal, Anti-Aircraft Artillery Battalion, stationed in Sculthorpe, England. He played on the Army baseball team which allowed him to travel. His love of baseball and being a lifetime Cubs fan, earned him his nickname, “Spike”.
He had a short career painting billboards on buildings in Sheboygan, Wisconsin and then worked for VanDerVaart Concrete Products as a ready-mix driver for 30 years. He was lead driver in removing snow from the city streets during many winter storms. He proudly served as a member of Teamsters Union Local 56 and as a Trustee and Vice-President.
Spike was a former member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Parish. One of his accomplishments was obtaining a donut maker which proved to be an excellent, fun fundraiser for the Parish. He was skilled at home maintenance and improvement and assisted neighbors with lawn cutting and snow removal. He loved polka music and had a wide collection. His video camera was always at the ready at family gatherings, leaving a visual legacy for his family. He had many hours of companionship with his beloved cats- Morris and Maggie.
He is preceded in death by brothers, Roy (Joan), James (Mandy), Benjamin (Pat), Robert and infant, Lester Williams; sisters, Anna Mae (Theodore) Buechler and Betty (Harold) Oldenburg and a grandson, Brandon Schwaller.
Spike is survived by his daughters, Jan (Gary) Grams, Lubbock, TX, Kathy (Kevin) DeRuyter, Plymouth, WI, Patti (Greg) Leick, Kohler, WI, Carla (Steve) Kovalaske, Sheboygan Falls, WI, and Mary Jo (Tom) Stoelb, Sheboygan, WI. Grandchildren and great-grandchildren include, Christopher (Natalie) Grams and their children Logan, Kaitlyn, Caleb, and Hudson of TX, Ryan Grams of CA, Jason (Becky) Schwaller and their daughter Grace of WI, Danielle (Matt Bougie) DeRuyter-Reynolds of WI, Ali (Brian) Schlick of FL, Sarah Leick of MO, Aaron Petermann of WI, Amanda Petermann and her son Carter of WI, Chad (Lynn) Holmen and their twin daughters Audrey and Rose of MN, Ben (Marlee) Mueller, expecting of WI, Tom (Hillary) Stoelb of WI and Aaron Stoelb of WI.
Family and friends may gather on Thursday, January 14, 2021 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, 1305 Humboldt Ave., Sheboygan, from 10:00 a.m. until the time of Mass at 11:00 a.m. Masks are required, and physical distancing will be observed for those in attendance. Burial will take place at Immaculate Conception Cemetery.
The family extends our thanks to Jennifer and the wonderful staff at Sharon Richardson’s for their special care of our father. We are so fortunate that Dad was on earth for so many years and are blessed with many memories.
