KENOSHA, WI (WSAU) — No criminal charges will be filed in the Jacob Blake case.
Kenosha County District Attorney Michael D. Graveley announced Tuesday afternoon during a news conference that there will be no criminal charges filed against any of the officers in the Jacob Blake case. Gravely also added that charges will not be filed against Blake in the incident either.
Blake, who is Black, was left paralyzed after being shot seven times in the back on August 23rd by Kenosha police officer Rusten Sheskey, who had responded to a call at the scene. Officers reportedly attempted to taze Blake twice and it didn’t work.
At the request of local authorities, Gov. Tony Evers has called up the Wisconsin National Guard to Kenosha ahead of the release of a charging decision in the Jacob Blake case.
The state Department of Justice investigated the shooting under a state law that requires outside agencies to investigate all officer-involved incidents. The department asked former Madison Police Chief Noble Wray, who is Black, to review its findings after Graveley asked for an outside expert to review the investigation. Graveley said Tuesday that he had informed Blake of the news before holding the news conference to announce his decision.
