SHEBOYGAN, WI (WHBL) – With only two days to go, the Sheboygan Salvation Army is hopeful that its Red Kettle Campaign goal of $150,000 can at least be approached. Carrye Jo Cony is the Development Director for the Sheboygan post, and says things have picked up over the past week. Last Tuesday, the kettles had only collected 25% of the goal, but as of Tuesday, that had doubled to 50%. And Cony said that considering the drive started before Thanksgiving, the current pace is gratifying.
Christmas Eve is typically one of the best days for the bell ringers, but Cony said that all depends upon whether there are enough people manning the stations, and volunteer signups will be accepted through today.
Meanwhile, Cony said some volunteers are pulling out all the stops, such as the “Chicken and Dinosaur Ringers,” two volunteers who dress up in inflatable dinosaur costumes and challenge passers-by to do the “Chicken Dance” with them. Chicken dance or not, every contribution counts because, as Cony said, “One thing we know for sure, there will still be homeless, and hungry, and hurting in the new year.” And with enough contributions, the Sheboygan Salvation Army will be there to help.
