SHEBOYGAN, WI (WHBL) – Christmas week under pandemic conditions began with the report of another death due to COVID-19, this time to a county resident 80 or older. That brings to 84 the number of lives lost to the disease since it first appeared in Sheboygan County in March. Of the victims, two were in their 30s, three in their 40s, five in their 50s, twelve in their 60s, twenty-one were in their 70s, and forty-one were 80 or older.
211 of the 525 test results received since Friday’s update were positive, yielding a positive test rate of 40%. 273 more persons achieved recovery status in the same period, and the active case count fell 63 to 10,894. That maintains the County Activity Level at “Critically High” with a burden rate of 1,068.9 cases per 100,000 persons, and no significant change was seen in trajectories. 18 persons are currently hospitalized, a gain of two since Friday. 10,894 persons here have now battled the coronavirus.
Wisconsin, which is analyzed 7 days a week by the Department of Health Services, added another 1,435 positive tests, raising the running total to 458,612. A positive test rate of 22% was recorded. 8 more deaths raises the toll to 4,425. 48 more persons entered hospitals for treatment, and the patient population added 40 on balance with 1,308 beds now occupied by COVID-19 patients. 272 of those are in ICU beds and 3 are being treated at the Alternate Care Facility at State Fair Park in West Allis. 62 more persons are waiting for their test results, and 499 ventilators are being employed.
