(WHBL) – Contact tracing is considered critical in achieving the upper hand over the COVID-19 pandemic, and soon your smart phone will be able to tell you when you’ve come in close contact with a known positive case.
The WI Exposure Notification is a new mobile app that uses Bluetooth technology to communicate with other nearby smart phones. The app doesn’t use, collect or store any GPS data or personal information, but once the owner receives a positive test, a code is entered and the app will then notify other phones with the app when they’re close together. Then a COVID-19 test can be scheduled to see if the virus was passed from one to another.
Andrea Palm of the Wisconsin DHS says that the more people who use the app, the more effective it will be.
Android users will be able to get the WI Exposure Notification app from the Google Play store, and iPhone users will be able to activate the feature beginning Wednesday, December 23rd.
