SHEBOYGAN, WI (WHBL) – When judged by the numbers alone, the level of COVID-19 activity in Sheboygan County could appear to be easing. However, the Sheboygan County Division of Public Health emphasizes the importance of studying the trends when averaged over the past two weeks, and those results indicate that little change is occurring.
106 of 309 test results recorded on Friday by the DPH were positive for COVID-19, raising the running total here to 10,683. 169 persons recovered in the same time period, reducing the active case load by 63 to 1,358. Hospitalizations remained steady at 16, and no deaths were added to the toll which stands at 83. The positive test rate was 34.3% in the previous 24 hours.
Those 2-week averages of case numbers and trajectories keep Sheboygan County in the highest level of activity – “Critically High” – with 1,068.9 cases per 100,000 population, and the trajectory showed no significant change in the last 2 weeks.
As a state, Wisconsin demonstrates a “Very High” activity level, with a burden of 860.2 cases per 100,000 population, and a case trajectory that declined 16% over the past two weeks.
Since Thursday’s report from the State Division of Health Services another 3,235 cases of COVID-19 were confirmed, putting the running total at 451,676. With 10,429 test returns in all, the positive rate was 31%. 60 more deaths raises the toll to 4,315 persons. 145 more were hospitalized, and after discharges and deaths are accounted for, the patient population dropped 33 to 1,330. 290 of those are in ICU beds, and 8 patients occupy the Alternate Care Facility at State Fair Park in West Allis. 97 patients in hospitals are waiting for their test results, and 517 patients in all are on ventilators. Patient populations of COVID-19 peaked at 2,274 on November 16th, and have now declined to levels last seen in late October.
Looking ahead to the holiday schedules, the posting of daily reports by the Sheboygan County DPH will occur only three days per week, Monday through Wednesday over the remainder of 2020, and the normal Monday through Friday schedule will resume the first week of January.
