SHEBOYGAN, WI (WHBL) – A Sheboygan County resident in their 70s is the latest victim of COVID-19, as the death toll rose to 83 with Wednesday’s update from the Sheboygan County Division of Public Health.
Another 135 persons recovered since Tuesday, and with 72 positive tests results reported…a 27.7% positive rate…the active case count dropped 64 to 1,467, the lowest number since the last weekend in October. 10,478 county residents have contracted the coronavirus since it first appeared here in March. 17 persons are currently hospitalized for treatment of their COVID-19 symptoms.
Despite the favorable aspects to some of the statistics, the County DPH stresses the need to consider the two-week numbers as a better gauge of virus activity, and those aren’t as “rosy.” Over the past two weeks the activity level here has been “Very High.” The Burden…or cases per 100,000 persons…is “Very High” at 989.4, and the trajectory was upwards with a gain of 18% over the previous two-week period according to statistics posted by the Wisconsin Department of Health Services.
Wisconsin added another 2,402 positive tests to the number confirmed so far in the state, which now stands at 444,798. Those tests represent 26% of the 9,251 results received. 74 more deaths were recorded on Wednesday, putting the death toll at 4,196. Another 146 persons entered hospitals for treatment of their illnesses, and after accounting for discharges and deaths, the patient population was down 51 to 1,410. 314 of those occupy ICU beds, and 4 are being treated at the Alternate Care Facility at State Fair Park in West Allis. 85 patients are hospitalized while awaiting their test results, and 506 of the state’s 2,362 available ventilators are in use.
