SHEBOYGAN, WI (WHBL) – With a little over a week to go, the Sheboygan Salvation Army has a lot of ground to cover if it’s to meet its goal of $150,000 for the annual Red Kettle Campaign.
Carrye Jo Cony, the Development Director for the Sheboygan post, said that they anticipated a lower number this year, mostly due to the coronavirus pandemic, which has kept shoppers at home and resulted in only about 20% of the usual number of volunteer bell ringers. And Cony said that when there’s nobody manning those kettles, people simply don’t give as much. Still, she’s hoping people will do what they can at the stores, and also online, where for the first time “virtual” red kettles have been set up for donations.
The overall goal this year is $685,000 and, along with the corporate campaign that covers what the red kettles don’t, about 60% still needs to be raised.
