SHEBOYGAN, WI (WHBL) – Saying that he believes “that we need to build a community that works for everybody, where we all can thrive,” Sheboygan 8th District Alderperson and Common Council President Ryan Sorenson tossed his hat into the ring on social media on Tuesday morning, becoming the first challenger to Mayor Mike Vandersteen in the 2021 spring election. Mayor Vandersteen announced his intent to run for a third term last Friday.
The 26-year old Alderperson Sorenson has been a city council member since first being elected in April of 2017, and was elected Council President in a special election this past June.
Citing crumbling roads, lakeshore erosion, and a growing opiate and human trafficking crisis, Sorenson said in his announcement that Sheboygan “needs bold, new leadership that can address al of these challenges while building a more sustainable economy for all who live here.”
The 2021 Spring Election will be held on April 6th.
