SHEBOYGAN, WI (WHBL) – As the Wisconsin count of new cases of COVID-19 came within shouting distance of 8,000 for the first time, Sheboygan County cases topped 200 on Wednesday with 205 confirmed cases reported in the last 24-hours. As 150 persons recovered, the active case count was up by 55 to 2,563. Hospitalizations dropped 2 to 31, and with 144 negative tests returned, the positive rate per test here was near 58%. 7,840 county residents have so far experienced COVID-19, and 48 have died of the disease.
Following a weekend report that showed a notable drop in per-day positive tests and a lower positive test percentage – followed by a rebound in those numbers on Tuesday, the Sheboygan County Division of Public Health clarified that the large variation was a statistical anomaly. It was not due to an actual decrease in cases, but: “due to capacity and the ability of both the state and the local health department staff to process all of the cases on the weekend.” That being the case, trajectories remain upwards without interruption in Sheboygan County, which is identified as having a “Critically High” risk level.
Wisconsin’s new confirmed positive single-day count reached a record high of 7,898 today. With 20,129 test results in all, the per-test positive rate was nearly 40%. 52 more persons have died in the last 24-hours, raising the state death toll to 2,793. Another 283 persons were hospitalized, and with discharges accounted for, the patient population fell a net 60 to 2,217. 428 COVID patients are in the ICU. 134 Patients are awaiting their test results in a hospital setting, and 638 patients are on ventilators. 22 patients are now being treated at the Alternate Care Facility at State Fair Park in West Allis.
