(WHBL) – The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources is warning of an elevated wildfire danger due to a combination of warmer temperatures, gusty winds and dry vegetation. Almost 50 wildfires occurred in Wisconsin during the past week, and widespread rains aren’t expected until Tuesday.
DNR fire prevention specialist Catherine Koele said most fires remained small, but the potential for rapid growth has fire officials on alert. Most fires resulted from the sparks from people burning leaves and brush, and sparks from lawn and recreational equipment and other causes were also cited.
The DNR recommends holding off on conducting any debris burning until the ground is completely snow-covered. In addition, keep a close eye on the daily fire danger and know local burning restrictions before using any fire in the outdoors.
