SHEBOYGAN, WI (WHBL) – The number of active COVID-19 cases in Sheboygan County dropped below 2,000 as of Thursday’s update from the County Division of Public Health. With 120 recoveries and 77 new confirmed cases, active cases were down 43 to 1,970. Of those, 29 are hospitalized, down 1 from Wednesday. 5,757 county residents have now had bouts with COVID-19. With 53 negative test results received since Wednesday, the positive return rate was 59.23%. The light number of test results was reflected in the flow at the Sheboygan County Aging and Disability Resource Center, where free testing is offered each Wednesday and Friday from 10 AM till 6 PM at 650 Forest Avenue in Sheboygan Falls. Social media posts during Wednesday’s session suggested “plenty of room” for those who suspect they have COVID-19, or who have had close contact with a known positive case. Initial sessions which were held at the Sheboygan County Fairgrounds in Plymouth reached daily limits.
Wisconsin added 5,922 new cases to its running total – now at 249,924. With 15,440 tests received in all, 38.35% were positive. 38 more persons died of COVID-19 since Wednesday, putting the death toll at 2,194. Another 223 persons were hospitalized for the disease, raising the patient total to 1,774. 376 of those were in the ICU. Another 299 persons were hospitalized and awaiting test results, and 557 persons are on ventilators. Hospital occupancy in our Southeast Wisconsin region has reached 94%, with only 6% of beds still available. Occupancy statewide is 88%, and 5 patients are being treated at the Alternate Care Facility at State Fair Park.
