APPLETON, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – Federal records show Outagamie County Executive Tom Nelson has registered his candidacy for the U.S. Senate seat currently held by Sen. Ron Johnson.
According to the Federal Election Commission, Nelson’s “statement of candidacy” was filed earlier this week.
Johnson was first elected in 2010, and was re-elected in 2016. The seat will be on the ballot in November, 2022.
While the county executive position is non-partisan, Nelson served in the Wisconsin Assembly as a Democrat from 2005-2011.
He lost the general election for the 8th Congressional District to Rep. Mike Gallagher in 2016.
