MADISON, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — As nearly all of Wisconsin has moved into the “very high” category for coronavirus activity, the state again announced more than 3,000 new cases on Thursday.
The Department of Health Services reported 3,413 new cases out of 15,495 total tests, for a 22% positivity rate. DHS notes that some data may still be part of a backlog from computer upgrades that were done last weekend.
There were also 22 new deaths reported on Thursday.
The seven-day average of new cases decreased slightly to 3,396. The seven-day average of new deaths was 21. DHS considers 142,485 people to have recovered from COVID-19, the illness caused by the new coronavirus.
Since the pandemic began, there have been 186,100 confirmed cases, more than 1.7 million negative tests and 1,703 deaths.
Meanwhile, the latest DHS weekly report says all but four of Wisconsin’s 72 counties are in the “very high” category for activity. In our area, Florence, Manitowoc and Outagamie counties are listed as having a growing trajectory, while Oconto County is listed as having a shrinking trajectory. All other counties saw no significant change since last week.
The state also reported one patient hospitalized at the alternate care facility at State Fair Park in West Allis, the same number as on Wednesday.
