MADISON, WI (WTAQ) — There are still thousands of people whose unemployment claims are in limbo in the state of Wisconsin, part of a backlog that stretches all the way back to March for some.
Governor Tony Evers on Tuesday says the state is working on it, and the situation is improving.
“As of Friday, the Department of Workforce Development had processed an unprecedented 7.4 million weekly claims since March 15,” Evers told reporters Tuesday.
There’s still about 8% of claims remaining.
To get over the backlog, the state has partnered with Google Cloud.
“Google Cloud will be assisting the department in unemployment insurance claims processing,” said Evers. “Ensuring all eligible claims in Wisconsin are paid.”
Those who have returned to work since applying and have yet to see a dime will still be eligible to receive what they’re owed, according to Evers legal counsel Ryan Nilsestuen.
