(WHBL) – It’s “open enrollment” season for health insurance and, according to the BBB of Wisconsin, that means that it’s open season for scammers. While there are legitimate people qualified to help you navigate your choices, the confusing process of finding the best health insurance plan is being trolled by scammers trying to get your personal information and money.
The Better Business Bureau of Wisconsin says Medicare members are being targeted now, and those under the Affordable Care Act can expect scams when that open enrollment period opens November 1st.
The BBB warns that if you receive a phone call from someone calling themselves a “health care benefits advocate” or some similar title, hang up on them. True advocates don’t call you asking for personal information over the phone.
The BBB’s Scam Tracker is also following reports of calls pushing “free” knee or back braces and free health screening. Those are Medicare fraud and you should also hang up on those. And if you think you’ve been scammed, report it to the BBB scam tracker. You can access that website at the following link: https://www.bbb.org/
