MADISON, WI (WRN) – The mask mandate maneuvering continues, between Democratic Governor Tony Evers and Republican legislative leaders who oppose it.
Assembly Majority Leader Jim Steineke spoke to PBS Wisconsin’s “Hear and Now” on Friday
“The local health departments have all the tools that Governor Evers supposedly believes he has, in order to put these mask mandates in place if they see fit.”
Stieneke also said Republicans believe people SHOULD be wearing masks and social distancing. The governor, on ther public affairs program “UpFront” on Sunday, said his mandate is widely supported
“Most of the people in the state of Wisconsin do support face coverings, and they know that it’s an important part of staying safe and keeping their neighbor’s safe. So we do believe it will stay in place.”
The latest challenge to the mask order was filed directly with the Wisconsin Supreme Court on Friday by a conservative activist who argues Evers exceeded his authority when he issued multiple public health emergencies.
