MADISON, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — Wisconsin broke its daily record for new coronavirus cases for the second day in a row on Friday, while the seven-day average now tops 3,000 cases for the first time.
The state Department of Health Services reported 3,861 new cases, or 26.5% of the 14,586 tests completed. That broke Thursday’s single-day record of 3,747 cases.
The state also reported 21 new deaths, with the seven-day average rising to 19.
Since the pandemic began, there have been 166,186 confirmed cases, nearly 1.6 million negative tests and 1,574 deaths. DHS considers 127,576 people to have recovered from COVID-19, the illness caused by the new coronavirus.
Wisconsin hospitals typically report their numbers later in the afternoon.
Meanwhile, DHS says data may not be updated on its website through the weekend because of computer system maintenance. The agency recommends looking at seven-day averages to get a more complete picture of the status of coronavirus outbreak in Wisconsin.
