The Green Bay Packers hope the earliest possible bye week doesn’t tap the brakes on their hot start to 2020. The team returned to practice today, staying inside the Don Hutson Center thanks to a mid-day downpour.
Head Coach Matt LaFleur said the team got through the week Covid free, no positive tests with players and staff still tested daily and the team on virtual lock down in the city which has had an alarming spike in coronavirus cases in the last couple of weeks.
Rookie linebacker Krys Barnes said he wiled away the time by getting his fill of NBA 2K, Madden 2020 and Mortal Kombat with roommate Jordan Love and other players.
A grueling 12 week finish to the season begins Sunday when the Packers travel to Florida to meet the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. To prepare for the climate change, LaFleur turned up the heat inside the Hutson Center for the one hour workout.
Key players like Davante Adams, Kenny Clark and Marcedes Lewis who all sat out last week’s victory against the Atlanta Falcons at Lambeau Field, were back at work and appear ready to return.
Also, rookie linebacker Kamal Martin and wide receiver Equanimeous St. Brown were in uniform after opening the season on the injured reserve list. The 21 day clock is now ticking for these two. At any time over the next three weeks, the Packers can bring them back onto the active roster. If after those 21 days and no move is made, they’ll be forced to finish the season on IR.
With Christian Kirksey and Allen Lazard going on IR since the season began, both those players would be welcome additions to their position groups.
The Packers will take the customary Tuesday off and return Wednesday to implement the game plan for what shapes up to be a key game in the race for NFC superiority.
