MADISON, WI (WSAU) – Wisconsin’s COVID surge continued on Saturday. The Department of Health Services reported 18 additional deaths, and 2,742 new cases.
About 1% of COVID patients have died in Wisconsin, bringing the total deaths to 1,458. Many of those who’ve succumbed to the virus had underlying health condition.
Wisconsin had had 147,560 confirmed cases since the pandemic began. Over the past seven days, 17.6% of those tested have come back positive.
On Saturday 120 new hospitalizations were reported around the state. A new field hospital at State Fair Park in West Allis will begin taking patients on October 14 to ease the caseload at over-crowded hospitals. Up to 530 patients can be treated at the new site.
