UNDATED (WSAU) A 17-year-old gunman, accused of shooting two people during rioting in Kenosha, made a brief court appearance in Illinois.
Kyle Rittenhouse is fighting extradition to Wisconsin, where he would face two first-degree homicide charges. His lawyers have suggested that he can’t get a fair trial in Wisconsin.
A formal hearing is set for October 30.
At his last court hearing in September Rittenhouse’s lawyers asked for more time to prepare their arguments. Rittenhouse claimed he was attacked first, with one person throwing a flaming object at him, and the other about to strike him with a skateboard. Lawyers say cellphone footage of the riot supports their claims.
Rittenhouse is accused of wounding a third person.
