GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ) – With the weather expected to be nice this weekend before temperatures drop off, we could be seeing the final days to really get out and about in parts of Wisconsin.
“Fall can be a really great time for people to get out for that last hurrah outside,” said Wisconsin Tourism Secretary Sarah Meaney. “It’s one of the most beautiful times of the year in Wisconsin as nature rolls out the red, orange, yellow, green carpet.”
Peak fall colors are already popping up across the northern parts of the state, with that same peak set to reach the southern parts of Wisconsin over the next few weeks.
However, the next few days could be among the last of 2020 to catch some fresh air – before that air gets cold and makes simply breathing outside a challenge.
“Outdoor recreation is really the name of the game. It has been all summer, we expect it to continue through fall and winter. So maybe check out a new state park that you haven’t had an opportunity to visit yet and get outside and stretch your legs,” Meaney said.
Another suggestion – chose a scenic drive and finding spots along the way to make a stop. Road trips to Door County, Rib Mountain, or even the Great River Road on the west side of the state are some of Meaney’s favorites this time of year.
“There are towns with all sorts of character. Whether you want to stop for pie, stop at a winery, a cidery, or maybe a microbrewery or stop in some shops along the way,” Meaney told WTAQ News. “Many of them are historic. Many of them are Wisconsin’s oldest. It’s a great way to take in some history, take in some scenery, and maybe do a bit of shopping and sipping along the way.”
However, Meany did issue a reminder to continue social distancing and follow other public health guidance while visiting towns across the state.
“We want to see people behaving respectfully and having a great time as they visit different communities,” Meaney said. “But also keep in mind that these communities and these businesses really would benefit from your dollar.”
