NICOSIA (Reuters) – Northern Cyprus reopened the beach of a resort abandoned since the 1974 conflict on the island, Turkish state media said on Thursday, taking a step supported by Ankara but condemned by Greek Cypriots and causing concern internationally.
State broadcaster TRT and other media said an area had been opened to the public in Varosha, a deserted suburb of the city of Famagusta on the eastern coast of the divided Mediterranean island.
