MADISON, WI (Wisconsin Radio Network-WSAU) – The worst of the coronavirus outbreak at the U-W Madison appears to be over.
University officials say the number of positive tests on campus has dropped significantly since last month’s spikes. Only 137 people tested positive over the past week. Health Services director Jake Baggott says there’s been more testing, safety protocols, and mask-wearing.
Things are not completely back to normal. Students still have to socially distance, and many campus amenities are still closed.
Dane County Executive Joe Parisi had called for all students to be sent home, with classes moved to on-line only. Chancellor Rebecca Blank said many students have signed year-long leases to live off-campus, and should be considered part of the Madison community.
