MADISON, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — The surge in new coronavirus infections is continuing in the state of Wisconsin.
The Wisconsin DHS is confirming 2,319 new cases of COVID-19 Wednesday.
That’s an increase from Tuesday’s 2,020 new cases.
There were also 11,188 negative tests Wednesday.
According to DHS Secretary-designee Andrea Palm, the average daily coronavirus cases have been around 2,000 this month, a sharp rise from the 800 range reported a month ago.
The surge in COVID-19 cases has led state officials to open a field hospital at the Wisconsin State Fairgrounds in West Allis.
Since the start of the pandemic, there have been 138,698 positive cases, 1,493,304 negative tests, and 1,415 deaths after the DHS reports 16 new COVID-19 deaths Wednesday.
The DHS considers 110,110 patients to have recovered from COVID-19, while there are still 24,852 active cases.
According to DHS, as of Tuesday, 1,827 hospital beds in the state were available out of 11,452.
