MILWAUKEE, WI (WSAU) – Two Milwaukee sports venues, Miller Park and Fiserv Forum, won’t be used as voting sites.
City elections officials in Milwaukee announced today that early voting locations needed to be announced by June 12. Miller Park and Fiserv Forum weren’t offered as polling locations until September 1. The Elections Commission said using the arenas could lead to legal challenges over the votes collected there.
One plan was for voters to return their ballots at the arenas instead of putting them in the mail.
The NBA, as part of its social activism initiative, has proposed that all arenas in the league be used as voting sites.
Milwaukee Bucks President Peter Feigin released a written statement: “While we were excited to welcome voters to Fiserv Forum to cast their ballots in a safe and accessible way, we remain just as committed to encouraging and educating people to vote and making our voices heard in this election.”
