MADISON, WI (Wisconsin Radio Network-WSAU) – Now’s the time to get your flu shot according to health experts.
As the coronavirus pandemic continues health professionals are reminding us that it’s also about time for flu season to start and that you should probably be getting your flu shot. Doctor James Conway from UW-Health says there’s no time like the present. “So I encourage people to reach out to their providers and pharmacies are offering vaccines as well.”
Dr. Conway says being vaccinated against the flu will cut down on the number of people who need to be hospitalized during flu season. It will also free up more beds for COVID patients. “You know, we really need to get everyone vaccinated by the end of October, so the earlier we can get people moving, the better off we’re all going to be.
Experts say this year’s vaccine should be more effective than other years, since so many people have been indoors and there haven’t been a lot of chances for the flu to mutate like it usually does.
