MADISON, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — Friday saw a near record number of new coronavirus cases as a surge continues to impact Wisconsin.
The state Department of Health Services reported 2,504 new confirmed cases, 29 shy of last Friday’s record and the third day in the past seven with more than 2,000 new infections.
There were a total of 15,079 tests completed, for a positive percentage of 16.6%. Nine new deaths were reported.
Those numbers compared to seven-day averages of 1,935 cases, 16.5% positivity and five deaths.
Since the pandemic began, there have been 110,828 confirmed cases, nearly 1.4 million negative tests and 1,274 deaths. DHS considers 92,366 people as having recovered from COVID-19, the illness caused by the new coronavirus.
Hospitalization numbers had not been updated for the day by early Friday afternoon.
