After opening the season with back to back Black and Blue Division victories for the second year in a row, the Green Bay Packers will make a swing around the NFC South Division in three of their next four games beginning with the New Orleans Saints in a prime time matchup at the Mercedes Benz Superdome Sunday night.
The practice week got underway today with almost training camp-like temperatures in the low 80’s. When the team emerged from the Don Hutson Center after their usual 15 minute warmup, I headed to the wide receiver group to check on one player in particular.
Number 17 wasn’t out there. Davante Adams suffered a hamstring injury against the Detroit Lions last Sunday and stayed inside the stadium to get treatment. Adams did visit with the media via a zoom session after practice and was asked how the hamstring was feeling, if it’s still a bit too early to know if he’ll be back this week and discretion was the better part of valor for not trying to get back out there against the Lions.
Another player absent was defensive tackle Kenny Clark who injured his groin in the opener at Minnesota and didn’t play in the home opener. Those were the only two listed on the first injury report as non-participants.
Montravius Adams (toe), Randy Ramsey (groin) and Josiah Deguara (ankle) were limited participants. Deguara didn’t play last week. Full participants were Jaire Alexander (hand), Corey Linsley (thumb) and Bill Turner (knee). Turner has yet to make his 2020 debut.
Veteran Guard Lane Taylor was officially moved to the injured reserve list on Tuesday. He suffered a season ending ACL tear at Minnesota. General Manager Brian Gutekunst also continued his early season trend of looking at a lot of players on his practice squad. Linebacker Greg Roberts was released from the squad and the Packers signed tight end Nakia Griffin-Stewart on Wednesday. The rookie was a grad transfer at Pitt for his senior year, playing three years prior at Rutgers. He was undrafted in the spring and was with the Vikings through the end of training camp.
