MILWAUKEE, WI (Wisconsin Radio Network) – Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett says next year’s budget will not hire any new police officers and would eliminate dozens of positions from the department.
The proposed budget technically cuts 120 positions from the city’s police roster. Those positions are not being laid off, they just are being discontinued once people leave. Many of those jobs are already vacant. That said, the budget will be about the same as last year’s budget, thanks to raises and benefits going up across the board for employees.
