MADISON, WI (WTAQ) — Governor Tony Evers says he’s still not sure if he’s going to extend his mask mandate.
The statewide mask mandate, which first went into force in August, is set to expire on September 28th.
“I’m glad it’s not ending today,” Evers told media on Tuesday. “We believe masking is an important component to keeping the people of Wisconsin safe, and hopefully we can find a way to make that happen going forward.”
The order will expire unless another order is issued.
“We have made no decisions in that respect,” said Evers. “We’re looking for the right avenue.”
Evers made the comments amid a large uptick in the seven-day-average COVID-19 growth in the state, one of the largest in the country at 1,261 per day. Most of that growth is being driven by students on university campuses.
