KENOSHA, WI (WSAU) The Wisconsin National Guard has concluded its mission in Kenosha.
Guardsmen and women had been in Kenosha following protests that turned violent after the police shooting of Jabob Blake.
Initially Governor Tony Evers sent 125 National Guard soldiers to Kenosha on August 24th. That number would eventually swell to 500.
On August 25, Evers turned down federal assistance. The Trump Administration offered to send agents from the Department of Homeland Security to assist local law enforcement. Evers said during an online interview with the Milwaukee Press Club, “I have no regrets, because the only thing I said ‘no’ to was Homeland Security. And I knew that would not work out in Kenosha because of what I saw in Portland.”
National Guard members soldiers from Arizona, Alabama and Michigan were eventually sent to Kenosha to quell the violence.
Local leaders estimate that damage from rioting is $50-million.
