Not sure it was Minnesota Fats but somebody said it, “It’s time to stop talkin’ and start chalkin’.”
The Green Bay Packers labored on Labor Day with the first practice as the squad Head Coach Matt LaFleur will bring to US Bank Stadium on Sunday to open this unprecedented season against their NFC North rival Minnesota Vikings.
It was a light practice, helmets and shorts, they’ll get the day off Tuesday and then really ramp things up when the game plan is installed on Wednesday.
A handful of players weren’t able to go, still recovering from training camp injuries. Billy Turner, Montravius Adams, Kamal Martin, Raven Greene, Randy Ramsey and Kabion Ento were withheld from the session.
Monday evening, two of those players, were officially moved to the injured reserve list. General Manager Brian Gutekunst placed Ento and Martin on IR. Unlike past years, where they would have to miss at least six weeks, the Covid-19 personnel rules in place this season could get them back on the active roster as soon as they are medically cleared. The team has unlimited number of re-instatements off IR compared to just two last season.
Gutekunst also claimed a player to take Ento’s spot in the secondary. Third year pro Parry Nickerson has been signed. The former Tulane corner was drafted in the sixth round by the Jets in 2018 and he played in all 16 games his rookie year with two starts. He was traded to Seattle last year and spent time on both the Seahawks and Jacksonville practice squads, getting activated late last year by the Jaguars to play in four games with one more start.
