MADISON, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — More Wisconsin counties have been seeing growing coronavirus activity than shrinking during the past week, according to the state’s weekly dashboard.
Kewaunee, Outagamie, Shawano, Waushara and Winnebago counties are listed as having growing trajectories, as is the Fox Valley region as a whole. In all, 13 Wisconsin counties are listed as having growing trends.
Brown, Green Lake and Oconto counties are among eight listed as having shrinking trends, along with the Northeast region. The update comes on the heels of a spike last month in Oconto County, which prompted a plea from the county’s health officer for people to avoid large gatherings over the Labor Day weekend.
All Northeast Wisconsin counties except Door and Menominee are listed as having high burden and activity. Door County has moderate burden and medium activity, while Menominee County has moderately high burden and high activity. Burden is defined as the number of cases per 100,000 residents in the past two weeks, while activity takes into account the recent rate of change.
Meanwhile, the state Department of Health Services reported 545 new cases on Wednesday, below the seven-day average of 695. There were also 7,831 negative tests. The positive test percentage of 6.5% was below the seven-day average of 8.4%.
Twelve more people died, pushing the total to 1,142 since the pandemic began. The seven-day average of deaths rose to six.
In all, there have been 77,129 coronavirus infections in Wisconsin and nearly 1.2 million negative tests. DHS on Wednesday listed 68,641 people as having recovered from COVID-19, the illness caused by the new coronavirus.
Hospitalization data had not been updated for the day as of early afternoon.
