MADISON, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — Wisconsin saw a large jump in the number of confirmed coronavirus cases on Tuesday.
One day after reporting only 266 new cases, the state Department of Health Services reported 981 positive tests. There were 10,863 negative tests, with a positivity percentage of 8.3%.
Those numbers compare to seven-day averages of 727 new cases and 8.5% positive.
They were the most new cases since Aug. 14 and the most tests completed since Aug. 13.
DHS also reported eight new deaths on Tuesday, more than the seven-day average of five.
Since the pandemic began, there have been 76,584 confirmed cases and more than 1.1 million negative tests.
As of Tuesday, DHS considered 67,902 people to have recovered from COVID-19, the illness caused by the new coronavirus.
