SHEBOYGAN, WI (WHBL) – Social distancing was already a given before it was “a thing,” and in 2020 the need to lift spirits might never be more important, and so the hundreds of thousands of twinkling lights in Evergreen Park will go on as usual beginning November 27th. Organizers of “Making Spirits Bright”, the annual drive-thru holiday light show, say the only adjustment needed will be the closure of the Quarryview Center that in a normal year would host a visit with Santa, wreath raffles, concessions and entertainment.
The annual event, organized by Sheboygan Area Rotary Clubs and staffed by volunteers, offers free admission but requests donations to the Sheboygan County Food Bank. Last year, just under 23,000 vehicles visited and almost 99 thousand pounds of pantry items were collected in the period between the day after Thanksgiving and New Years Eve.
Organizers have voiced concerns that COVID-19 could put a damper on the numbers of volunteers needed to conduct the 9th annual event, and anyone interested in volunteering is asked to contact them on their website: MakingSpiritsBright.com.
