(WHBL) – Claims by so-called “consultants” offering help in getting pandemic-related relief funds from the government are more likely to be after your money and personal information. That, according to an alert from the Better Business Bureau Serving Wisconsin.
The agency issued their warning Monday of the scam that often starts with a website search or social media ad directing you to a website that claims it can help you get free money from unadvertised government aid programs, or that it can get you approved when you’ve first been denied aid. The forms it claims are needed collect sensitive personal information, putting you at risk for identity theft, and the “consultants” often ask for their fees before you get your money – which of course never comes.
The BBB advises that you never share your personal information or money with a business or individual you don’t know, and to visit their website, bbb.org, for more information.
